چکیده

Cosmological in ation: a brief reminder. In large-scale, the Universe is reasonably uniform. This observed uniformity poses a problem to cosmology; see, e.g., [3]. Indeed, it is easy to explain the uniformity of gas inside a given volume, where molecules interact with each other, as a result of which, inhomogeneities disappear. However, in cosmology, the Universe's expansion goes so fast that di erent parts of the Universe have no time to interact with each other: we observe distant quasars billions of years after they shine, so by the time our signal goes back, the Universe may have collapsed again. To explain the observed uniformity, modern cosmology has to go beyond the usual non-quantum equations, and take into account that right after the Big Bang, quantum e ects led to an exponential expansion ( cosmological in ation ); see, e.g., [2]. As a result of this expansion, spatially separated areas of the observed Universe come from the same micro-region and thus, have similar quantities.

Qualitative Approach to Semi-Classical Loop Quantum Cosmology

Recently the mechanism was found which allows avoidance of the cosmological singularity within the semi-classical formulation of Loop Quantum Gravity. Numerical studies show that the presence of self-interaction potential of the scalar field allows generation of initial conditions for successful slow-roll inflation. In this paper qualitative analysis of dynamical system, corresponding to cosmol...

A Newtonian Model for the Quantum Gravitational Back-Reaction on Inflation

Quantum gravitational back-reaction offers a simultaneous explanation for why the cosmological constant is so small and a natural model of inflation in which scalars play no role. In this talk I review previous work and present a simple model of the mechanism in which the induced stress tensor behaves like negative vacuum energy with a density proportional to −Λ/8πG · (GΛ) · Ht. The model also ...

Some Key Issues Confronting Inflationary Cosmology

Does inflation provide a compelling explanation for why the universe is so large, so flat, and so old, and a predictive theory of density perturbations? In this brief contribution (based on the role of the author as moderator of the discussion session on inflation), a list of some of the key issues confronting inflationary cosmology will be given, with the hope of focusing the debate on inflati...

Inflation can occur in the cores of topological defects, where the scalar field is forced to stay near the maximum of its potential. This topological inflation does not require fine-tuning of the initial conditions. Inflation is a state of very rapid cosmological expansion driven by the potential energy of a scalar field ϕ (called the " inflation "). The inflationary scenario was originally pro...

Non-Local Modification of Gravity and the Cosmological Constant Problem

We propose a phenomenological approach to the cosmological constant problem based on generally covariant non-local and acausal modifications of four-dimensional gravity at enormous distances. The effective Newton constant becomes very small at large length scales, so that sources with immense wavelengths and periods — such as the vacuum energy— produce miniscule curvature. Conventional astrophy...
